oh man, the APE preparations are not nonstop, but they should be! I am totally overwhelmed. Secret Voice #2 looks like it will be cool.. I am going to be starting a new serialized story in this issue featuring the Dr. Galapagos character, in a slightly re-designed form. It will be two-toned like the OZU illustration I posted further down, or the Soft Moth piece from Telstar. The contents are actually: Soft Moth & Cloud Kids reprints, and the new Galapagos story, with some new llustrations and a hott new image silkscreened cover. So I'll have that, the first issue, Studygroup12 #3 and some brand spankin' new T-shirts, as well as some prints and ephemera. Oh yes, and a little color mini called "Ghost Attack!?" that also has a finely silkscreened cover. APE should be fun, I'll be at the Global Hobo/ USS Catastrophe / Studygroup12/ iwilldestroyyou / levon jihanin / typewriter tables. We'll be off to the side, on the left by the bar- tables 255 & 254. I just finished inking two layers an illustration for an article about Japanese director Ozu for Kitchen sink Magazine.. I write this while waiting for the ink to dry on the second layer. It's going to be printed in B&W, but I thought I'd experiment with a kind of duo-tone thought process for making the image to give it a sense of depth with grayscale. We'll see how it all works out. I'll post the illustration once it's done.
Reading about Ozu to get ideas for the illustration made me want to see his movies. He's one of those directors I've meant to check out, but never really investigated. In the end I wound up illustrating a still from his movie Tokyo Story.
